The United Arab Emirates (UAE) opens the world's largest vertical farm in Dubai, which will produce 1,000,000 kilograms of greens annually.
Currently 90% of the produce in the city of Dubai is imported from Europe or elsewhere, due to its limited supply of water and arable land.
Located near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, the 330,000sqft facility will provide an output of 3,000 kgs per day.
Known as ECO-1, the farm uses 95% less water than conventional agriculture and doesn't need pesticides or herbicides due of its controlled environment.
The facility is the first vertical farm for Emirates Crop One, the joint venture between Emirates Flight Catering and Boston-based company Crop One.
