Trump Sues BBC for $10 Billion Over Edited January 6 Speech

U.S. President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the BBC in a Miami federal court seeking up to $10 billion in damages for defamation.
Trump alleges the BBC spliced together separate parts of his January 6, 2021, speech to falsely suggest he incited the Capitol riot, omitting sections calling for peaceful protest.
The lawsuit claims the edits were a “brazen attempt to interfere in and influence” the 2024 U.S. presidential election and caused reputational and financial harm.
The BBC apologized and acknowledged an “error of judgment,” but denies legal wrongdoing and says there is no basis for a lawsuit.
The controversy led to the resignations of BBC Director General Tim Davie and Chief Executive of News Deborah Turness.
The documentary aired on the BBC’s Panorama program and was not broadcast in the U.S., though accessible via streaming platforms.
