Iran Launches Retaliatory Strikes at Israel

Israel and Iran have exchanged deadly airstrikes and missile attacks following Israel’s largest assault against Iran on Friday. Israel had targeted Iranian nuclear sites, military commanders, and scientists, aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran retaliated by launching waves of ballistic missiles at Israel’s major cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Israeli air defenses intercepted many of the projectiles, but several missiles struck residential areas and buildings in central Israel, causing widespread destruction. At least three people were killed and dozens wounded. Iran’s ambassador to the UN reported that Israeli strikes killed 78 people, including military figures and civilians, and wounded over 320.

Global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and EU officials, have called for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomacy. The U.S. confirmed helping intercept Iranian missiles but also signaled that nuclear negotiations with Iran remain open, though Tehran has rejected recent offers.
