Trump Administration Blocks Harvard from Enrolling Foreign Students

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has revoked Harvard University’s ability to host international students, citing claims of antisemitism, violent campus protests, and alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

The move, led by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, affects nearly 6,800 current foreign students and bars new international enrollment for the 2025–2026 academic year. The decision follows Harvard’s refusal to comply with a federal demand for records on foreign students involved in campus protests. Noem framed the revocation as a national security measure, asserting that hosting international students is “a privilege, not a right.”

Harvard condemned the action, calling it unlawful and retaliatory, emphasizing its commitment to academic freedom and support for its international community. The university is pursuing legal action and has launched emergency fundraising efforts to counteract over $2.6 billion in federal funding cuts already imposed by the administration.
