The United States and Ukraine have signed a strategic agreement creating a joint “Reconstruction Investment Fund” that grants the U.S. preferential access to Ukraine’s critical mineral resources in exchange for continued American support in Ukraine’s post-war recovery.
The agreement gives the U.S. a pathway to critical materials like titanium, lithium, and uranium, essential for military tech, electric vehicles, and energy. Ukraine emphasized it retains full ownership and control over its mineral resources, including the authority to determine extraction locations and practices. Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that both nations will manage the fund equally with no dominant vote, marking what she called “a true partnership.”
The deal, championed by U.S. President Donald Trump, aims to support Ukraine’s post-war rebuilding while ensuring America receives what Trump called “fair compensation” for its extensive military aid. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the U.S. has provided over $70 billion in assistance to Ukraine.
