Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a joint exploration of Russia’s rare earth metal deposits and the supply of aluminum to the U.S. as part of a potential economic deal.
Putin highlighted Russia’s vast reserves of rare earth metals, crucial for electronics and electric vehicles. He also offered to supply up to 2 million tons of aluminum annually to the U.S., a market Russia used to supply before 2023 tariffs. He suggested joint projects in hydropower and aluminum production projects, particularly in Siberia, with an estimated potential investment of $15 billion.
Putin emphasized the importance of rare earth metals for Russia’s economic growth and technological competitiveness, aiming to boost its domestic industry and create high-tech goods.
