Pope Francis in Critical Condition with Pneumonia and Early Kidney Failure

Pope Francis, 88, remains in critical condition as he battles pneumonia and a complex lung infection. Blood tests show early signs of kidney failure, but doctors have stated the condition is under control.

The pontiff is alert, responsive, and even attended Mass. However, Francis is receiving supplemental oxygen and is being closely monitored, with his prognosis still uncertain. The pope’s condition has sparked worldwide prayers, with support coming from across the globe, including Argentina, Cairo, and New York. The Vatican has confirmed that Francis is undergoing treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he was admitted on February 14 after bronchitis worsened.

Francis, aware of his declining health, has made preparations for the future, including revising funeral rites and appointing 21 new cardinals, increasing the number of cardinals eligible to vote for his successor from 120 to 140.
