A new poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology showed Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has a 57% approval rating, contradicting U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that it was only 4%.
The poll, conducted with 1,000 respondents, found that 57% of respondents trusted Zelensky, while 37 percent said they did not and the rest were undecided. The results showed a 5% increase in trust since December despite Ukraine’s military setbacks. Zelensky’s approval peaked at 90% in March 2022 after Russia’s invasion.
Trump’s remarks echoed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims that Zelensky is not a legitimate leader. Ukrainian law bans elections during martial law, and Zelensky argues that holding a vote now is impractical due to security risks and displaced citizens.
