Bondi, who served as Florida’s attorney general from 2011 to 2019, brings more traditional legal experience compared to Gaetz, who lacked typical qualifications for the role. Trump praised Bondi for her tough stance on crime and promised she would refocus the Department of Justice (DOJ) on fighting crime, prioritizing illegal immigration, and tying federal grants to cooperation with immigration enforcement.
Trump’s administration is expected to shift the Civil Rights Division’s focus from police accountability toward defending religious freedom and challenging diversity initiatives.
