Boeing to Layoff Over 2,500 Workers in the US

Boeing is laying off more than 2,500 workers across four US states, including Washington, Oregon, South Carolina, and Missouri, as part of a broader plan to cut 17,000 jobs, or 10% of its global workforce, Reuters reports.

The majority of the layoffs are in Washington, affecting 2,200 employees, and in South Carolina, impacting 220 workers, both key locations where Boeing manufactures commercial airliners. The layoffs were expected following an announcement in October by Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg. Affected employees, including engineers, technicians, and production workers, will remain on payroll until January 17, in accordance with federal regulations.

The layoffs come as Boeing aims to restart 737 MAX production following a recent major strike by over 33,000 West Coast workers that disrupted jet production.
