An Israeli airstrike on a multi-story residential building in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, killed at least 72 people, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government, Reuters reports.
The building housed six families and video footage showed locals pulling bodies from rubble. Additionally, Israeli airstrikes in other parts of Gaza, including the Bureij and Nuseirat camps, killed at least 14 people earlier in the day. This strike comes after months of Israeli military operations targeting Hamas militants in Gaza. Israel has not commented but previously accused Hamas of inflating casualty numbers.
Meanwhile, Qatar has paused mediation efforts for a ceasefire and hostage deal, citing a lack of willingness from both sides to negotiate. The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 43,800 Palestinian deaths since the beginning of the war, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
