The Biden administration has reversed its policy, allowing Ukraine to use US-made weapons for long-range strikes deep into Russian territory, Reuters reports.
This decision follows months of requests to lift the restrictions from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and comes in response to Russia deploying North Korean troops to bolster its forces. Ukraine is expected to begin these long-range attacks soon, likely using ATACMS rockets with a range of up to 190 miles (306 km).
US officials remain divided on whether it will drastically change the war’s outcome, but it may strengthen Ukraine’s position in future peace talks. The decision has been criticized by some, including former Trump adviser Richard Grenell, who viewed it as escalating the war. Russia also criticized the move, warning it could lead to World War III.
