Biden Pledges Peaceful Transition of Power After Trump’s US Election Win

US President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Thursday and called for a peaceful transfer of power following Republican Donald Trump’s election victory, inviting Trump to the White House to promote a smooth transition, Reuters reports.

Speaking in the Rose Garden, Biden urged Americans to “bring down the temperature” and reaffirmed the integrity of the US electoral system, encouraging unity despite political divisions. Biden also acknowledged the defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris, urging Democrats to continue fighting for their values. However, some Democrats criticized his decision to run for re-election at 81, especially following Harris’ defeat.

Trump’s victory was fueled by voter discontent with the economy, inflation, and cultural issues. He won key battleground states and secured 295 Electoral College votes, surpassing the necessary 270 to win the presidency. The election granted Republicans control of the Senate and possibly the House. His potential cabinet includes figures like Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
