A bus accident in Uttarakhand, northern India, resulted in at least 36 deaths and injured several others after the overcrowded vehicle veered off the road and fell into a 60-meter (200-foot) gorge, AP News reports.
The bus, which was only meant to hold 42 passengers, was carrying around 60 when it veered off the road. Rescue teams worked to pull out passengers, with several in critical condition being evacuated to hospitals. The state government has opened an investigation, leading to the suspension of two transport officials for approving the bus’s operation.
