14 people were killed and several injured after a 35-meter section of roofing collapsed at the entrance of a railway station in Novi Sad, Serbia, Reuters reports.
Rescue workers, supported by cranes and bulldozers, searched through the rubble for survivors, and two women trapped under the debris were rescued but in critical condition. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that five victims had not yet been identified and called for accountability for those responsible, while Prime Minister Milos Vucevic called it a “black Friday.”
Train services have been suspended, and it was noted that while a reconstruction project was completed this summer, the section of the roof that collapsed was not part of that project.
