The event followed controversy at a Trump rally sparked by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who made offensive remarks about Puerto Rico, referring to it as a “floating island of garbage.” Trump distanced himself from the comedian, stating that he did not know Hinchcliffe personally, insisting that he loves Puerto Rico and that Puerto Ricans love him back.
Trump’s stunt was a response to Biden’s remark made during a call, which he later attempted to clarify, stating he meant to condemn Trump’s derogatory comments about Latinos.
