Israeli Strikes on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley Kill More Than 60, Local Authorities Say

Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed over 60 people across multiple towns, marking the deadliest day in the region in more than a year, Reuters reports.

District governor Bachir Khodor reported that 67 people were killed and over 120 wounded, with rescue workers still retrieving bodies from the rubble. The strikes are part of Israel’s intensified campaign against the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, but local officials and residents describe the attacks as indiscriminate. Israel also targeted the port city of Tyre, where evacuation orders were issued, affecting areas including the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders.

Israeli bombardments have claimed over 2,700 lives in Lebanon since hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah escalated, with most casualties occurring in the last five weeks. The ongoing violence has left many towns along Lebanon’s border with Israel in ruins.
