Israel’s security services have dismantled a spy ring accused of gathering information for Iranian intelligence, arresting seven Israeli citizens, including two minors, from northern Israel, according to the Shin Bet and police, Reuters reports.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had been tasked by Iranian agents to conduct numerous intelligence-gathering operations on military bases, energy facilities, and ports, targeting installations like the Iron Dome defense system and a power plant in Hadera. The suspects were reportedly motivated by financial gain, receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars, some of which were facilitated through cryptocurrency transactions.
Israeli authorities described the security breach as one of the most serious in the country’s history, and the suspects are expected to face indictment soon. This comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran, with previous incidents involving an Israeli citizen linked to an Iranian-backed assassination plot against prominent figures, including Israel’s prime minister.
