Hezbollah launched around 180 rockets into Israel on Tuesday, reaching as far south as Haifa, prompting tens of thousands of Israelis near the Lebanese border to evacuate, AP News reports.
Hezbollah’s acting leader Sheikh Naim Kassem asserted that the group’s military capabilities remain strong despite recent Israeli airstrikes and that Israeli forces have struggled to advance since their ground incursion into Lebanon. Kassem also announced Hezbollah would soon name a successor to its late leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Hezbollah is currently weaker than it has been in years, asserting that Israeli forces have eliminated thousands of militants, including commanders. The Israeli military reported that it had sent additional ground troops into southern Lebanon in response and confirmed the death of a senior Hezbollah commander in an airstrike.
