Afghan Man in Oklahoma Arrested for Plotting Election Day Terror Attack

Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an Afghan national, was arrested in Oklahoma for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day in the name of Islamic State (ISIS), according to the US Department of Justice, Reuters reports.

Tawhedi, 27, entered the US in 2021 on a special immigrant visa and was planning the attack with his underage brother-in-law. They were arrested after attempting to purchase AK-47 rifles and ammunition from FBI informants. The indictment details that Tawhedi conducted online searches related to accessing cameras in Washington, D.C., and finding states without firearm licensing requirements. Tawhedi planned to target large gatherings, with the intention of dying as a martyr.

The Department of Homeland Security recently warned that the US faces a high threat level due to various factors, including the upcoming 2024 election and ongoing global conflicts.
