Netanyahu Tells Macron Restricting Israel Will Strengthen Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the ongoing conflict in Gaza during a phone call, with Netanyahu emphasizing that imposing restrictions on Israel would only benefit Iran and its proxies, Reuters reports.

Macron had called for a halt to arms shipments to Israel as part of a broader effort to find a political solution to the Gaza conflict. Netanyahu stressed that Israel expects support from its allies in its fight against Iran-backed Hezbollah and Hamas, which have been involved in escalating violence since October 2022. He stated that Israel’s military actions against Hezbollah aim to restore security and stability in the region, allowing residents to return to northern Israel after evacuations due to Hezbollah rocket attacks.

The two leaders agreed to continue discussions during French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot’s upcoming visit to Israel, who is traveling to the Middle East to facilitate diplomatic efforts as the conflict expands to Lebanon.
