Eight Israeli Soldiers Killed in Clashes with Hezbollah in Lebanon

Israel reported the deaths of eight soldiers during combat in southern Lebanon as part of its ongoing military campaign against Hezbollah, marking the deadliest day for Israeli forces in the region in over a year, Reuters reports.

Hezbollah confirmed ground clashes, claiming to have destroyed three Israeli tanks, while also stating that they successfully repelled Israeli troops in border towns. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu framed the conflict as part of a broader struggle against Iran, asserting that Israel will not succumb to threats. The Israeli military has mobilized additional infantry and armored units for its operations, which aim to destroy Hezbollah’s infrastructure along the border.

The conflict is raising fears of a wider regional escalation involving Iran and the United States after Iran launched its largest missile strike on Israel, which involved over 180 missiles, in retaliation for Israeli operations targeting Hezbollah and other militant groups in Lebanon and Gaza. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of 1,900 people in Lebanon and displaced approximately 1.2 million people in the region.
