Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would be barred from entering Israel due to his failure to “unequivocally” condemn Iran’s recent missile attack on the country, Reuters reports.
Iran launched over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel amid escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, although most were intercepted, and no casualties were reported.
Guterres issued a general statement about the “latest attacks in the Middle East” without specifically condemning Iran. Katz criticized Guterres’s lack of condemnation, stating that anyone who does not clearly denounce Iran’s actions does not deserve to visit Israel, declaring him “persona non grata” and asserting that Israel will defend itself regardless of the UN leader’s stance.
