Intense fighting broke out between Israel and Hezbollah after Israeli forces launched raids into southern Lebanon ahead of a potential ground invasion, Reuters reports.
The Israeli military deployed elite units, including paratroopers and commandos, to conduct “limited, localized, and targeted ground raids” against Hezbollah, which it claims poses an immediate threat to Israeli communities near the northern border. Local residents reported Israeli units crossing the border, while towns in Lebanon experienced heavy shelling. Hezbollah responded with artillery and rocket fire targeting Israeli troops across the border but did not acknowledge the Israeli ground operations.
The raids followed weeks of intense Israeli strikes that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders. Overall, Israeli military operations have killed about 1,000 civilians in Lebanon and displaced one million people. Despite these setbacks, Hezbollah remains active, firing rockets into Israel and preparing for a potential ground engagement.
