New York City Mayor Eric Adams Faces Criminal Indictment

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that he expects to be charged with federal crimes following a long-running corruption investigation, Reuters reports.

The charges, linked to an FBI search of his devices in November 2023, reportedly involve illegal donations to his 2021 campaign, possibly from foreign governments, including Turkey. Adams denies the allegations, calling them false and vowing to remain in office while fighting the charges. His statement came after reports that he had already been indicted, with charges likely to be unsealed soon.

The investigation has prompted multiple high-profile resignations within Adams’ administration, which could complicate his potential re-election campaign in 2025. Several politicians, including US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, have called for his resignation.
