Hand-held radios used by the military group Hezbollah detonated on Wednesday across southern Lebanon, following a similar attack on Tuesday when thousands of the group’s pagers detonated, Reuters reports.
The explosions, which occurred during a funeral for those killed in the pager attacks the previous day, have killed at least 14 people and injured nearly 450. The death toll from yesterday’s blast rose to 12, including two children, and wounding almost 3,000 people. These attacks are believed to have been orchestrated by Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad, which had planted explosives in the devices months earlier. Israel did not comment on the blasts, and the situation has fueled concerns of an escalating war in the region, potentially drawing in other powers like the US and Iran.
Hezbollah has vowed retaliation, blaming Israel for the sophisticated attack, which they called their “biggest security breach” in history. The group has since retaliated, launching rockets at Israeli artillery positions. This situation has intensified fears of a broader conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which has been escalating since the Gaza conflict began in October.
