A 30-year-old German tourist died after being attacked by a shark while sailing off Spain’s Canary Islands, approximately 500 kilometers off the coast of Gran Canaria, DW News reports.
The woman had been sailing on a catamaran when the shark struck. The woman lost a leg in the attack and later suffered a heart attack while being airlifted by a Spanish rescue helicopter to a hospital in Las Palmas. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away en route. Shark attacks are extremely rare in the Canary Islands, with only six incidents recorded since the 16th century.
