Two astronauts, billionaire Jared Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis, conducted the world’s first private spacewalk from a SpaceX capsule, Reuters reports.
Isaacman and Gillis exited the capsule and carried out the spacewalk while two other crew members remained inside. The walk, lasting about 30 minutes but involving almost two hours of preparations, was a key test of SpaceX’s new spacesuits and depressurization processes for the spacecraft.
The mission is part of Isaacman’s privately funded Polaris Dawn program, aimed at advancing commercial spaceflight capabilities. It marked a significant milestone for SpaceX in its efforts to expand the role of private companies in space exploration.
