Zelensky Presses US Military Leaders to Allow Ukraine to Strike Targets in Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged US and allied military leaders to lift restrictions on weapon use, allowing Ukraine to strike targets deep within Russia, during a meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, AP News reports.

Zelensky argued that long-range strikes are essential for Ukraine to counter recent deadly Russian attacks and to pressure Russia for peace. However, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed skepticism about the impact of such capabilities, emphasizing that no single weapon would be decisive. While some countries showed support for Ukraine’s request, including Lithuania and Canada, the US has been cautious due to concerns about escalating the conflict.

Zelensky also highlighted the urgent need for promised weapons systems, which he says have been delayed. The US plans to provide $250 million in additional aid, including air defense and artillery.
