Judge Delays Donald Trump’s Sentencing in Hush Money Case Until After Election

A New York judge has postponed former US President Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money case until after the November 5 election to avoid any perception of political influence, Reuters reports.

The delay aims to prevent any perception of political influence affecting the proceedings, as Trump is a presidential candidate. Trump’s lawyers had requested the delay, arguing that proceeding before the election could appear as election interference. Originally scheduled for September 18, the new sentencing date is set for November 26.

Trump, who was convicted in May on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, denies the allegations and plans to appeal. He expressed appreciation for the delay, which he sees as an opportunity to push for the dismissal of the case.

The judge will also rule on a pending motion by Trump’s lawyers to dismiss the verdict, following a recent Supreme Court decision related to presidential immunity.
