American-Turkish Activist Shot Dead by Israeli Troops During Protest in West Bank

Israeli troops shot and killed Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, an American-Turkish woman, during a protest against Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, according to Palestinian and Turkish officials, Reuters reports.

Eygi, a 26-year-old activist with dual US and Turkish citizenship, was shot in the head and taken to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus in critical condition but died from her injuries. The Israeli military stated that their troops fired at a male “instigator” throwing rocks, and they are investigating Eygi’s death.

The incident has drawn international criticism, with the White House expressing deep concern and requesting an investigation, while Turkey condemned the killing, blaming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Israel’s actions, accusing them of occupation and genocide, claims that Israel denies.

In a separate incident, a 13-year-old Palestinian girl was killed in the village of Qaryut during clashes with Israeli forces after settlers attacked local residents.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 Middle East war and continues to build settlements deemed illegal by most countries. Western nations, including the US, have condemned settler violence, with Washington imposing sanctions on some involved in the movement.
