Massive Protests in Israel After Six Hostages Killed in Gaza

Massive protests erupted across Israel involving up to 500,000 people, triggered by the death of six hostages in Gaza and the government’s failure to secure a ceasefire deal, Reuters reports.

Demonstrators took place in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other cities, with protesters demanding more action from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to bring home the remaining hostages. The Israeli military had earlier recovered the bodies of the hostages, who were reportedly killed by Hamas after surviving nearly 11 months of captivity.

US President Joe Biden condemned the killings and vowed that Hamas leaders would be held accountable. Despite ongoing negotiations mediated by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, a ceasefire deal has not been reached.
