A 26-year-old Syrian man is in custody for a stabbing attack in Solingen, Germany, which killed three people and injured eight, Reuters reports.
The suspect, who is connected to a local refugee home, turned himself in and admitted to the crime. The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack, describing the suspect as a “soldier of the Islamic State” acting in revenge for Muslims in Palestine. However, no evidence has been provided to confirm a direct connection between the suspect and IS.
The attack, which took place during a festival celebrating Solingen’s 650-year history, has been described as an act of terror by local officials.
