India’s Modi Visits Ukraine, Urges Zelensky to Sit Down for Peace Talks with Russia

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kyiv and urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to engage in peace talks with Russia to end the ongoing war, offering India’s assistance in facilitating dialogue, Reuters reports.

Modi, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine in modern history, emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the war. He offered India’s support and expressed willingness to personally contribute to peace efforts if needed. Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s desire for peace but emphasized it must be on Kyiv’s terms, while Russia has ruled out talks following Ukraine’s recent military actions.

Modi’s visit comes amid intensifying conflict, with Russia making slow gains in eastern Ukraine and Ukraine launching a significant offensive into Russia’s Kursk region, aiming to divert Russian forces from the eastern front.
