‘Black Myth: Wukong’ Hits Record Player Numbers on Debut

The newly released video game “Black Myth: Wukong” has quickly become the most-played game on Steam, reaching 1.4 million concurrent players shortly after its release, Reuters reports.

Developed by Game Science and backed by Tencent, the game is based on the Chinese mythological figure Sun Wukong from the classic novel “Journey to the West.” “Black Myth: Wukong” was first teased in 2020 and has attracted significant attention both globally and domestically. It topped Steam’s China sales chart for the week of August 6-13, and its launch created a buzz on social media in China, where it trended on Weibo with 1.7 billion views.

Game Science has led promotional collaborations with major brands like Lenovo, Luckin Coffee, and Didi, who are incorporating elements from the game into their marketing campaigns.
