Israel Claims Hezbollah Senior Commander Killed in Beirut Strike

Israel conducted a rare airstrike on Beirut, targeting and allegedly killing top Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukur, who was reportedly behind a recent rocket attack that killed 12 people in the Golan Heights. Hezbollah did not immediately confirm the commander’s death, AP News reports.

The airstrike, which hit a southern suburb of Beirut, killed at least one woman and two children and injured dozens. Lebanon’s public health ministry reported 74 wounded, and the strike caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. Hezbollah condemned the strike, and Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati criticized the attack for its proximity to a major hospital.

The attack occurred amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, who have been exchanging strikes for the past 10 months. Israel held Hezbollah responsible for the Golan Heights attack, despite Hezbollah’s denial of involvement.
