US Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign raised $200 million since becoming the likely Democratic presidential nominee following President Joe Biden’s exit, significantly outpacing expectations, AP News reports.
Around 66% of the donations came from first-time contributors after President Joe Biden endorsed her and over 170,000 volunteers have signed up to support her campaign. During a fundraiser in Massachusetts, initially planned under Biden’s candidacy, Harris raised about $1.4 million, surpassing the expected $400,000.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance have framed Harris as a far-left politician. Trump criticized Harris on issues like defunding the police and her stance on abortion, while Vance predicted her initial support bump would fade.
