Tech billionaire Elon Musk shared a manipulated video of Vice President Kamala Harris on X, which uses AI to mimic her voice and spread misleading statements, AP News reports.
The video, presented as a parody, includes manipulated audio of Harris making false claims about her candidacy and qualifications. The video, presented as a parody by its creator, YouTuber Mr. Reagan, uses real footage of Harris but replaces her voice with an AI-generated one. Musk’s post, which did not clarify the parody nature, has been viewed more than 123 million times, raising concerns about the potential for AI to mislead viewers.
The video highlights the growing issue of AI-generated misinformation in politics, especially as the US presidential election approaches. Experts warn that high-quality AI tools make it increasingly difficult to distinguish between real and manipulated media. Social media platforms like X and YouTube have policies against manipulated media, but enforcement and transparency issues persist.
