Thousands of firefighters are battling the rapidly growing Park Fire in northern California, which has burned over 350,000 acres and destroyed 134 structures near Sacramento, Reuters reports.
The fire, about 90 miles north of Sacramento, doubled in size within 24 hours and is now 10% contained. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity are expected to aid firefighting efforts. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for multiple communities, including Paradise, previously devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire. A man has been arrested for allegedly starting the fire by pushing a flaming car into a gully.
The Park Fire is the largest of dozens of active wildfires in the US, with over 2 million acres burned nationwide. In Oregon, the Durkee Fire has scorched more than 288,000 acres, and a firefighter died in a tanker crash near the Falls Fire.
