FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the House Judiciary Committee about the 20-year-old man, Thomas Crooks, suspected of attempting to kill former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Reuters reports.
Crooks had searched online about the John F. Kennedy assassination the same day he registered for the rally. He fired at least eight rounds during the July 13 rally, injuring Trump, killing one attendee, and wounding two others. He used an AR-15 rifle and had crude explosives in his car and home. Crooks also flew a drone and live-streamed footage before the event. The motive remains unclear, but Crooks was described as a loner.
US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following bipartisan criticism over the failure to prevent the attack. The session highlighted tensions and skepticism regarding the FBI’s impartiality.
