A bulk carrier named Tutor sank in the Red Sea days after being attacked by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who used a bomb-laden drone boat, marking the second ship sunk in their campaign, Associated Press reports.
The Liberian-flagged, Greek-operated Tutor was hit by a bomb-carrying drone boat, killing a Filipino crew member. This attack, which is part of a broader campaign targeting shipping in the region, is linked to the Israel-Hamas war. The Houthis, supported by Iran, have conducted over 60 attacks since November, sinking two vessels and killing four sailors. Despite a US-led naval campaign to curb such attacks, the Houthis have continued their assaults.
The ongoing conflict and these maritime attacks have severely disrupted Red Sea shipping, reducing container traffic by 90% since December.
