Ian McKellen to Make ‘Speedy Recovery’ After Falling Off Stage

Sir Ian McKellen, 85, fell off the stage during a performance at London’s Noel Coward Theatre but is expected to fully recover, according to producers, Associated Press reports.

The incident occurred during a fight scene in “Player Kings,” an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV” plays. McKellen cried out in pain after falling and was attended to by theater staff and two doctors from the audience. McKellen was later taken to the hospital, prompting the cancellation of both Monday and Tuesday evening’s shows so he could rest. Despite the fall, he was reported to be in good spirits and is expected to recover fully.

McKellen, known for roles like Gandalf in “Lord of the Rings” and Magneto in “X-Men,” has won a Tony Award, several Olivier Awards, and has been nominated for two Academy Awards, five Emmys and several BAFTA awards.
