8 Israeli Soldiers Killed in Rafah, Deadliest Attack on Israeli Forces in Months

An explosion in Rafah, a region identified by Israel as Hamas’ last major stronghold in southern Gaza, has killed eight Israeli soldiers, making the deadliest attack on Israeli forces in months, Associated Press reports.

The explosion was caused by either an explosive device placed by Hamas or an anti-tank missile, according to Israeli spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari. The war, ongoing for over eight months, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. Over 37,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 80% of Gaza’s population has been displaced

Despite international calls for a ceasefire and a new proposal by US President Joe Biden, both Israel and Hamas have expressed reservations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists on continuing the war to destroy Hamas’ capabilities.
