Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group, has launched a rocket attack on northern Israel in retaliation for the killing of senior commander Taleb Sami Abdullah, Associated Press reports.
The recent attack involved around 160 projectiles, causing damage but no immediate casualties. Hezbollah’s retaliatory strike was in response to an Israeli attack that killed Abdullah and three other officials. Abdullah was a key figure in Hezbollah’s operations along the Lebanon-Israel border. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with over 400 people killed in Lebanon, mostly Hezbollah members, and 25 people killed in Israel.
This escalation coincided with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit in the region to promote a cease-fire plan, endorsed by the UN Security Council, which has not yet been fully accepted by Israel or Hamas.
