The federal judge overseeing the classified documents prosecution of former US President Donald Trump in Florida has indefinitely postponed the trial, originally scheduled for May 20, due to unresolved issues in the case, Associated Press reports.
US District Judge Aileen Cannon’s decision was expected due to unresolved issues in the case and Trump’s ongoing trial in a separate case in Manhattan. This case involves charges related to hush money payments during the 2016 presidential election, and some of the same lawyers representing Trump in the Florida case are involved.
Trump faces felony counts for allegedly hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after leaving the White House in 2021 and obstructing the FBI’s efforts to retrieve them. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
With Trump facing four criminal cases as he aims to return to the White House, only the Manhattan prosecution is actively underway. It remains uncertain whether the other three cases, including the Florida trial and two others related to election matters, will proceed to trial before the election.
