Israel to Purchase 40,000 Tents for Rafah Evacuation

The Israeli Defense Ministry reportedly plans to purchase 40,000 tents ahead of a potential military offensive against the southern Gaza city of Rafah, the last remaining Hamas stronghold in the region, Reuters reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly indicated his intention to launch a ground offensive on Rafah, the last major city in Gaza not yet targeted by Israeli forces, to dismantle Hamas and secure the release of the remaining hostages. The Israeli military intends to evacuate the civilian population to “humanitarian islands” in central Gaza before any assault.

The planned assault has faced widespread condemnation, with the United States warning Israel of potential global isolation if it proceeds. Israel’s campaign in Gaza, triggered by a Hamas attack in October, has caused extensive destruction and displacement of the Palestinian population, with calls for a ceasefire intensifying.
