US President Joe Biden issued a stern warning to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, indicating that future US support for Israel’s actions in Gaza hinges on swift measures to protect civilians and aid workers, Associated Press reports.
This came after an Israeli airstrike killed seven aid workers in Gaza, straining the already tense relationship between the two leaders. Israel has acknowledged responsibility for the strikes but maintains they were not intentional and announced immediate steps to increase humanitarian aid into Gaza. Biden’s message represents a departure from previous unwavering US support for Israel’s military efforts and signals a potential shift in policy if Israel fails to implement necessary changes.
Meanwhile, the World Central Kitchen called for an independent investigation into the airstrikes that claimed the lives of its staff members. Despite these developments, the US has continued arms transfers to Israel, while plans for a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza to facilitate aid delivery are underway.
