The Israeli military has withdrawn from the al Shifa hospital in Gaza, leaving it in ruins after conducting a two-week-long raid on the facility, Associated Press reports.
Israel reportedly killed 200 militants and arrested more than 900 suspected militants, including high-level Hamas members. However, the Gaza Health Ministry claims that some medical workers and journalists were also detained and mistreated. The raid concluded with Israeli forces withdrawing from the compound, with extensive destruction and significant damage to Shifa’s emergency ward and compound.
Despite Israel’s assertion that no civilians were harmed, the World Health Organization reported 21 patients died during the siege, with over 100 patients left without proper medical care and supplies. Witnesses reported airstrikes and civilian casualties in the area surrounding Shifa.
Israel justified the targeting of Shifa due to its alleged use as a Hamas command center, but evidence supporting this claim has been questioned.
