Seven people, including citizens from Australia, Britain, and Poland, working for Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen (WCK), were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza, Reuters reports.
The convoy, carrying humanitarian aid, was hit despite coordinating movements with the Israeli Defense Force. WCK CEO Erin Gore condemned the attack, calling it an assault on humanitarian organizations. Hamas blamed Israeli targeting of aid workers for hindering aid distribution. Israel pledged an investigation into the incident, while expressing commitment to facilitating humanitarian aid.
The incident sparked international condemnation, with calls for accountability and protection of humanitarian workers delivering aid to Gaza. WCK paused its operations in Gaza following the incident.
