German airline Lufthansa has reached an agreement with union Verdi regarding a pay raise for its 25,000 ground staff, following weeks of wage disputes and strikes that disrupted travel across Germany, Reuters reports.
Lufthansa’s Human Resources Director Michael Niggemann announced the agreement in Frankfurt, stating that it represents a satisfactory compromise with substantial salary increases over the term. Details of the agreement were not disclosed, but Verdi had been demanding a 12.5% pay increase for employees over twelve months, along with an inflation compensation bonus, while Lufthansa offered a 10% pay increase over 28 months plus an inflation bonus.
Verdi negotiator Marvin Reschinsky expressed satisfaction with the arbitration process outcome and stated that further discussions with Lufthansa would follow to finalize the agreement for employee voting by the end of the day.
